As part of each exam, we perform a comprehensive oral cancer screening. This includes checking for signs of oral cancer on the tongue, lips, gums, floor of the mouth, and soft palate and feeling for lumps and signs of abnormal tissue changes on the neck and inside of the mouth.

While some think this is a rare cancer, The Oral Cancer Foundation proves otherwise. Each day, about 132 Americans are newly diagnosed with mouth cancer. One person dies from oral cancer every hour of every day. Worldwide the problem is far greater, with more than 640,000 new diagnoses every year.

The American Cancer Society estimates that oral cancer strikes tens of thousands of people each year, and only 56% of those diagnosed survive more than five years. Early detection is vital to surviving oral cancer.
