Periodontist in Bay City, MI

Gum disease is the leading cause of adult tooth loss, and it rarely hurts until it is advanced. At Dr. Chelsea Mason Dental, gum care is handled in-house by Dr. William Mason, a periodontist who spent over four decades treating gum disease and teaching future periodontists at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. He sees patients in our Bay City office every two weeks, so you get specialist care without a referral or a second office.

Why patients choose us for gum care

Specialist care without the referral runaround

A periodontist is the specialist for gums and the bone that holds your teeth. Most Bay City practices refer you out for gum grafting, bone grafting or advanced gum disease, which means a second office, a second consultation and a second bill. Here, Dr. William Mason treats gum disease, performs grafting and places implants, and Dr. Chelsea Mason coordinates the rest of your care in the same building. If you were his patient in Saginaw, you already know his work.

A deep cleaning below the gum line that removes tartar and bacteria from the root surfaces so the gums can reattach. It is done with local anesthetic, usually over one or two visits, and is the standard first treatment for gum disease.

The area is numb during the procedure and most patients describe a few days of soreness managed with over-the-counter pain relief. Sedation is available for anxious patients.

Every two weeks. The front desk will match you to his next available day, and urgent gum problems are seen by Dr. Chelsea Mason in between.
